Understanding background removal

What is background removal?

The process of separating the main subject of a photo from everything behind it, producing a clean cut-out. The result is usually a transparent PNG you can place on any new background.

How AI removal works

A neural segmentation model predicts, pixel by pixel, whether each point belongs to the subject or the background — then builds an alpha mask. Edge refinement feathers or sharpens that mask for a natural cut.

Transparent PNG guide
