How to rotate PDF pages

1

Upload your PDF

Drag and drop your PDF onto the upload zone or click Choose PDF File. The tool loads the document and generates thumbnail previews of every page.

2

Choose which pages to rotate

Select All Pages, Odd Pages, Even Pages, individual pages by clicking thumbnails, or enter a custom range like 1-3,6,9. The active selection is highlighted in the preview grid.

3

Set rotation and preview

Choose 90° clockwise, 90° counterclockwise, or 180°, then click Apply to Selection. Thumbnails instantly update to show the new orientation — you can fine-tune per-page using the ↺ ↻ buttons.

4

Generate and download

Click Apply Rotation & Generate PDF. A new PDF with all rotations applied is created in your browser and downloads immediately — no server involved, no waiting.

When to rotate PDF pages

Fix Sideways PDF Documents

Correct PDFs where all pages are rotated 90° — common with documents scanned using a flatbed scanner in landscape orientation.

Rotate Scanned PDFs

Upright scanned pages that appear sideways or upside-down when opened in a PDF viewer. One click restores the correct reading orientation.

Mixed Orientation Documents

Some PDFs contain both portrait and landscape pages. Rotate specific pages (using Custom or Selected mode) without touching the rest of the document.

Fix Print Orientation

Before printing a document, rotate pages to match the intended print direction — portrait or landscape — so every page comes out correctly aligned.

Prepare PDFs for Sharing

Clean up poorly oriented PDFs before sending them to clients or colleagues so they open in the correct direction on any device or reader.

Archive and Archival Correction

Standardise page orientation across a large batch of scanned archival documents for consistent display in document management systems.

How PDF page rotation works

What Is PDF Rotation?

PDF rotation changes the orientation metadata stored in each page's dictionary. The page content (text, images, graphics) is untouched — only the viewing angle is updated. Any PDF viewer reads this metadata and renders the page at the correct angle.

Thumbnail Live Preview

Page thumbnails are generated using pdfjs-dist, a JavaScript PDF renderer. The previews update instantly with CSS transforms when you apply a rotation, so you can visually verify every page before generating the final file.

Browser-Based Processing

Rotation is applied using pdf-lib, a pure JavaScript PDF library. The entire process runs inside your browser tab. No data is ever sent to a server — your document remains private on your device from start to finish.

Precise Angle Control

pdf-lib reads each page's existing rotation angle and adds your chosen delta (90°, 180°, or 270°), then normalises the result to 0–360°. Pages with different default rotations are all handled correctly, including mixed-orientation documents.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about rotating PDF pages, fixing sideways documents, and how the tool works.

Upload your PDF, then use the ↺ (counterclockwise) and ↻ (clockwise) buttons on each page thumbnail to rotate individual pages. You can also use the Page Selection controls to select all pages, odd/even pages, or a custom range, then click Apply Rotation to rotate them all at once. Click Apply Rotation & Generate PDF when done.

Yes. Switch the Page Selection to 'Selected', then click the specific thumbnail you want to rotate. Only that page will be highlighted. Use the per-thumbnail rotate buttons (↺ ↻) or the Apply Rotation button to rotate just that page. All other pages remain unchanged.

Yes. Leave Page Selection set to 'All Pages' (the default), choose your rotation amount — 90° clockwise, 90° counterclockwise, or 180° — and click Apply to Selection. All pages will be rotated simultaneously. You can see the live preview on every thumbnail before downloading.

Yes. Select 'Odd Pages' or 'Even Pages' in the Page Selection panel, apply the desired rotation, then switch to the other group and apply a different rotation. The thumbnail previews update in real time so you can see the result before generating the final PDF.

Yes. Scanned PDFs are just images embedded in a PDF container. This tool rotates the page orientation metadata, which effectively rotates the displayed image without altering the scan itself. The output will look correctly oriented in any PDF viewer.

No. All processing happens entirely in your browser using pdf-lib, a client-side JavaScript library. Your PDF file, its content, and the rotated output never leave your device. No server, no cloud — complete privacy.

Yes, completely free. There are no limits on file size, page count, or number of times you can use the tool. No account required and no watermarks added to the output.

Sideways PDFs are common with scanned documents, faxes, phone camera captures, or files exported from certain apps. The scanner or camera captures at an orientation that does not match the PDF's rotation metadata. Uploading the file here lets you correct the orientation before sharing or printing.
