How to create beautiful photo collages

1

Upload your photos

Drop multiple images into the upload zone (max 15 MB each). Thumbnails appear below — they fill cells in the order they were uploaded.

2

Pick a layout

Choose from 9 modern templates: grids (2/3/4/6), IG Post, Story, Pinterest, Moodboard, and Polaroid. Each has its own aspect ratio.

3

Style and reposition

Tune spacing, corner radius, border thickness, and the background colour or gradient. Drag any photo inside its frame to crop it just right.

4

Export in HD

Pick PNG / JPG / WebP and output width (1080 / 1440 / 1920 / 2400). Click Export — the file downloads instantly.

Moodboard & collage design tips

Pick a colour story

Limit your photos to 2-3 dominant colours for a cohesive look. The background gradient should complement, not compete.

Mix one hero photo

Set one large, visually striking image as the focal point and let smaller photos play a supporting role around it.

Use spacing for breathing room

8-16px of spacing gives a clean, editorial feel. 0 spacing looks like a single image; 24+ feels like a magazine spread.

Match aspect to platform

Instagram feed: 1:1 or 4:5. Stories/Reels: 9:16. Pinterest: 2:3 vertical. Facebook covers: 16:9 landscape.

Try gradient backgrounds

A soft blue→purple gradient adds depth without overpowering the photos. Use solid white for minimal/clean exports.

Crop with intent

Drag inside each frame to control which part of your photo shows. Faces should sit in the upper third for portrait crops.

Best Instagram collage sizes

IG Feed Post

1080 × 1080 (1:1). Use the 'IG Post' template — one feature photo plus two supporting images. Works for both single and carousel posts.

IG Story / Reels

1080 × 1920 (9:16). Use the 'Story' template — three horizontal panels stacked vertically. Great for before/after, step-by-step, or product reveals.

Pinterest Pin

1000 × 1500 (2:3). The Pinterest template uses asymmetric cells that catch the eye in the feed and survive Pinterest's tall preview crop.

Moodboard

Free-form 4:3 layout with 5 asymmetric cells — perfect for brand boards, vision boards, or curated inspiration collections.

Creative collage ideas

  • Travel recap: 6-grid layout, one panel per landmark, soft cream background.
  • Before/after: 2-grid horizontal — split a transformation into two equal frames.
  • Brand kit board: Moodboard template with hero shot + colour swatches + typography samples.
  • Year-in-review: 4-grid with one season per cell, gradient background, rounded corners 16px.
  • Recipe carousel: Story layout — ingredient shot, prep photo, plated dish stacked top to bottom.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about photo collages, layouts, HD export, and privacy in this browser-based studio.

Upload as many as you like — the layout slots each show one image (the active template determines how many fit), and any extras stay in the thumbnail strip so you can swap them in via the per-cell Replace button. Each image is capped at 15 MB to keep the browser responsive.

Yes — the 'IG Post' template uses a 1:1 aspect ratio with a featured layout, and 'Story' uses 9:16 split into three horizontal panels. Pick one of those layouts and choose a 1080+ output width for sharp posts.

You choose the output width — Standard 1080, HD 1440, Full HD 1920, or Ultra 2400 px. The height is derived from the chosen layout's aspect ratio. PNG is lossless; JPG and WebP offer a quality slider so you can balance sharpness against file size.

No. Every image is read locally via the File API, rendered to your screen as a blob URL, and composited onto a hidden HTML canvas only when you click Export. Nothing is sent to a server.

Yes — adjust spacing (0-40px gap between cells), corner radius (0-40px), and border thickness (0-10px) with a custom border colour. Backgrounds include 9 preset palettes (solids + gradients) plus a custom colour picker.

Yes. Each cell uses object-fit cover so your image fills its frame; click and drag the image to reposition the crop. Hover any cell to reveal a small toolbar with 'Replace' and 'Reset position' buttons.

Upload: any image format your browser can decode — JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF (first frame), HEIC where supported. Export: PNG (lossless, best for text-on-image), JPG (smallest), or WebP (smaller than JPG at similar quality).

Yes — drag interactions use pointer events so touch dragging works. On smaller screens the controls panel stacks above the canvas, and the canvas resizes to fit the viewport while preserving the chosen layout's aspect ratio.
