Watermarking Best Practices

Tips for effective and professional watermarks

Keep It Subtle
Set opacity to 40–60% so the watermark is visible but doesn't distract from the image content.
Tile for Stock Images
Use Tile Mode with medium spacing to fully protect preview images — it prevents easy cropping.
Use Transparent PNG Logos
A PNG logo with a transparent background blends seamlessly on any photo or background colour.
Corner Placement
Bottom-right and bottom-left are the most common placements — they stay visible but stay out of the main subject.
Match the Image Tone
Use a white watermark on dark images and a dark watermark on bright images for maximum readability.
Export as WebP for Web
WebP gives smaller file sizes than JPG at the same quality — ideal for watermarked images on websites.

About This Tool

How it works and what makes it private

100% Browser-Based

This tool uses the HTML Canvas API to render watermarks directly in your browser. No image data is ever sent to a server — everything happens locally on your device, even when you are offline.

Full-Resolution Export

The preview is scaled down for performance, but when you export the tool renders the watermark at your image's original pixel dimensions — preserving every detail.

Text & Logo Modes

Add a custom text watermark with your choice of font, size, colour, bold, italic, and rotation. Or upload a logo (PNG with transparency recommended) and control its size and position on the image.

Tile Mode

Enable Tile Mode to repeat your watermark across the entire image in a diagonal grid — ideal for protecting stock photos and preview images from being used without permission.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about this free online tool.

No. All watermarking is done entirely inside your browser using the HTML Canvas API. Your images never leave your device and are never sent to any server.

You can upload any image format your browser supports — PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF (first frame), BMP, and more. You can also paste an image directly from your clipboard using Ctrl+V (or Cmd+V on Mac).

Tile Mode repeats the watermark across the entire image in a diagonal grid pattern, similar to the watermarks you see on stock photo sites. Use the spacing slider to control how densely the watermark is repeated.

You can click or drag directly on the preview canvas to place the watermark anywhere you like. For common placements, use the 3×3 position preset grid (top-left, centre, bottom-right, etc.).

Yes. Upload a PNG file with a transparent background as your logo for the best results. The transparency is preserved when drawing on the image, so only the visible parts of your logo appear over the photo.

You can export the watermarked image as JPG, PNG, or WebP. JPG and WebP include a quality slider — higher quality means a larger file. PNG is always lossless. For photos, JPG at 85–90% quality is a good balance.

No. The export is always at the original image's full resolution. The preview on screen may appear scaled down for performance, but when you click Download the tool renders the watermark at native resolution.

Yes. Use the Rotation slider or the ±15° buttons to rotate the watermark to any angle from 0° to 359°. This is useful for diagonal watermarks in single-placement mode, or for adjusting the angle in Tile Mode.
